So close that it takes a few minutes on foot to reach it. Despite that, it is often overlooked and that\u2019s a pity, since Atrani is <strong>classified as one of the &#8216;most beautiful villages in Italy&#8217;<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Two of the main reasons are its <strong>position<\/strong> and the <strong>atmosphere<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Perched on a cliff overlooking the sea, with its steep streets, narrow alleys and lovely building, the village looks like a real size background for a nativity scene.<\/p>\n<h2>WHAT TO SEE IN ATRANI<\/h2>\n<p>Although Atrani is a small village, it has preserved its ancient medieval structure with <strong>historical buildings<\/strong> and a few interesting <strong>naturalistic attractions<\/strong> that are worth a visit.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Atrani, Italy\u3010Walking Tour\u3011Amalfi Coast - 4K\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hI2ZGvCuK-w?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/www.rentalsinitaly.it\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>THE MAIN SQUARE OF ATRANI<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Piazzetta Umberto Primo<\/strong> is the main square of Atrani.<br \/>\nHere, people and tourists come to <strong>enjoy a coffee, chat or shop<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<strong>The square opens towards the sea<\/strong> and is located just a few steps from the beach. The view from here is beautiful.<\/p>\n<p>The square gives its <strong>best at night<\/strong>, with the lights on.<\/p>\n<h3>CHURCHES<\/h3>\n<p><strong>The Church of San Salvatore de Birecto<\/strong> is the most important monument in Atrani.<br \/>\nIt was built in 940 and then remodeled in the neoclassical style.<br \/>\nIt is <strong>both a church and a museum<\/strong>. Despite its simple interiors, it stores many artifacts that dates back to the medieval time and to the Roman&#8217;s time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Maddalena<\/strong> is equally unmissable.<br \/>\nThis church was built in the 13th century to thank Our Lady <strong>after the deliverance from the Saracen pirates<\/strong>. In addition to the beauty of the building, the church is worth visiting for the <strong>sea views<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>CAVES<\/h3>\n<p>Next to the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Maddalena is the so-called\u00a0<strong>Masaniello Cave<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe cave is named after Tommaso Aniello, aka <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Masaniello\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Masaniello<\/a> (1620-1647), a Neapolitan who led the insurrection against the Spanish in 1647 and used the cave as a refuge.<\/p>\n<p>Another cave is the so-called\u00a0<strong>Cave of the Saints<\/strong>.<br \/>\nIt is shaped like an irregular quadrilateral and the walls are decorated with Byzantine-style frescoes that date back to the 12th century and depict the four evangelists.<\/p>\n<h3>ATRANI BEACH<\/h3>\n<p>Atrani has its own beach which is a good plus for those who want to enjoy the clear sea water along the Amalfi Coast.<br \/>\n<strong>It is a small beach<\/strong>, with black sand, in a very suggestive position just under the arches of the main road.<br \/>\nYou can find both beach resort and a small free beach area.<\/p>\n<h2>FOOD IN ATRANI<\/h2>\n<p>When visiting the Amalfi Coast you cannot miss to explore the local cuisine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Seafood, fish but also cheese and vegetables<\/strong> are the main products of Atrani.<br \/>\n<strong>Pasta<\/strong> is really good too, especially the &#8216;<strong><em>scialatelli&#8217;<\/em><\/strong> and the &#8216;<strong><em>laganelle<\/em><\/strong>&#8216;.<br \/>\nAnd don\u2019t forget to try one of the many dessert like the &#8216;<strong><em>bocconotto<\/em><\/strong>&#8216; with cream and cherries, &#8216;<strong><em>o pasticciotto<\/em><\/strong>&#8216; or the &#8216;<em><strong>sfusato di Amalfi&#8217;<\/strong><\/em>!<\/p>\n<p>Atrani is also particularly famous for the lemon liqueur <em><strong>Limoncello<\/strong><\/em> that is traditionally served chilled as an after-dinner.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><em>Are you planning to visit some of this charming towns?
