The Cathedral of Sant\u2019Andrea<\/h4>\n

The Cathedral of Sant\u2019Andrea was built in 987. It is located in the main square of Amalfi at the top of a spectacular staircase<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Its elevated position and the beautiful decorations, which recall those of North African mosques<\/strong> with some Gothic elements<\/strong>, make this church a great subject for stunning photos.<\/p>\n

At the foot of the staircase is the graceful fountain of Sant’Andrea<\/strong>, built in 1760.<\/p>\n

Torre dello Ziro<\/h4>\n

In ancient times the tower was used to spot the dangerous\u00a0Saracen ships<\/strong>, then it became a prison<\/strong>. Among its most famous prisoners was Joan of Aragon<\/strong>, called “the Mad\u201d, in 1500.<\/p>\n

The tower is located outside the town of Amalfi and is not exactly easy to reach. However, the remains of the building and the view<\/strong> are worth the effort.<\/p>\n

The Paper Museum<\/h4>\n

Amalfi has a long tradition in the production of paper<\/strong>, which is still appreciated today.<\/p>\n

The Paper Museum of Amalfi gathers machinery and equipments used to make paper in the past. The machines have not only been restored but are also functioning.<\/p>\n

Rione Vagliendola<\/h4>\n

Rione Vagliendola is perhaps the most characteristic district<\/strong> of Amalfi.
\nIt is extremely fascinating to stroll through its narrow streets, admire the old aristocratic houses, and then stop to take a look at the Monastery of SS. Trinit\u00e0 or enjoy a coffee in Piazza dello Spirito Santo, the square of the district.<\/p>\n

Arsenale, the Arsenal<\/h4>\n

In the past, Amalfi was one of the main maritime republics of Italy<\/strong><\/a>, along with Venice, Pisa and Genoa.<\/p>\n
