Marina di Seiano, a small fishing village with a gorgeous beach
Seiano is a hamlet of Vico Equense, located on the left side of the river Rivo d’Arco, on a hill overlooking the sea at 85 meters above sea level. Here you will find a small cluster of houses, but also a long downhill road that will lead you to Marina di Seiano, a small fishing village with an enchanting beach.
The history of Seiano
Thanks to the green hills, the blue sea, and the good air, the Romans already considered Seiano an excellent resort area. So much so that the name is said to derive from the Latin Sejus or Sejanus, which might related to the name of a Roman family.
In later centuries the area became increasingly popular and prosperous, partly due to mercantile activities. Today, Seiano is a typical summer tourist destination, appreciated by those who are on vacation on the Amalfi Coast and Sorrento Coast and want to spend some time at the beach.
What to see and what to do in Marina di Seiano
Marina di Seiano, or Marina D’Equa (also written D’Aequa), is thus a small fishing village which origins date back to Roman and pre-Roman times. Among the most important historical remains still standing is the Caporivo Tower, part of an ancient defensive system of the town.
However, the main attraction of Marina di Seiano is definitely the beach. Actually, there are two beaches, respectively to the right and left of the small marina.
These beaches have both sand and pebble, a clear sea with shades ranging from azure to deep blue, and a gently sloping seabed. But at Marina di Seiano you will also find restaurants, a few small stores, and the jetty from which boat trips to Capri can begin. The beach is equipped, but there is also a free part. It is a wonderful place! Indeed, Marina d’Equa since 2020 has received the Blue Flag every year. This is a prestigious international award that the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) gives to coastal resorts that meet quality criteria of bathing water and services offered.
How to reach Marina D’Equa
Via the A3 highway, take the Castellammare di Stabia exit and take the tunnel that leads to Seiano. Continue in the direction of Sorrento and follow the signs for Marina d’Equa (Seiano beach). Then continue along the downhill road for about 1 km to the sea. Here you will find some parking lots where you can leave your car.
