Let’s go trekking on the Path of Gods
Do you love trekking? If the answer is yes, then you should definitely check out Sentiero degli Dei, or the Path of Gods. This famous trekking path is located on the Amalfi Coast and offers some of the most beautiful views in all of Italy.
In this article, we will provide all the information you need to know before embarking on this amazing hike!
THE PATH OF GODS
The Path of Gods is a scenographic trekking path, created in 1926, which name comes from the stunning views of the Gulf of Salerno and the island of Capri that it offers along the way.
It runs for about 8 Km kilometers between the two small towns of Agerola and Nocelle and it takes about 7 hours to be completed (round trip). Despite being relatively easy, some sections are more challenging. In any case, it is suitable for anyone in health. And even if you get tired, there are a few spots along the way where you can stop, rest, enjoy the view, or have a picnic lunch.
Along the path the scenery evolves. First, you will see hills covered with shrubs, vegetable gardens, and lemon groves. Then, the landscape will become more rugged, with rocky walls and sweeping views of the sea and the Amalfi coast. Additionally, you will come across caves and remains of ancient villages.
The best thing about the Path of Gods for us? The fact that it is still not touched by mass tourism. This means that you can experience all the beauty of the Amalfi Coast without being disturbed by the crowd.
WHERE TO START (AND END) THE PATH OF GODS
Probably, you don’t know that there are two paths, so there are two starting points and two ending points.
The first starting point is in Agerola, in the small hamlet of Bomerano. You can get there by bus and then follow the signs. The second one is in Praiano and is more adventurous. In fact, to access the path you have to go up a long staircase.
The Path of the Gods ends in Santa Maria Del Castello or in Nocello. In Nocello, you can take a bus that runs along the panoramic and winding coastal road, or you can go down a staircase of 1,500 steps and arrive at the hamlet of Arienzo. The staircase is certainly more challenging but, wow, what views!
Once the excursion is over you will find yourself in Positano. Why don’t you take the opportunity to shop for typical souvenirs of the Amalfi coast or eat some gelato?
