LET’S DISCOVER NERANO!
Some info about Nerano
The sea village of Nerano was built around a rocky cliff but over time people started to build houses more and more toward the sea. It is rich in history, as its name suggests. In fact, the name ‘Nerano’ seems to derive from the emperor Nero – the one who set fire to Rome – who build a villa nearby to enjoy the relaxation of this part of the Sorrento Peninsula. Moreover, in the past, Nerano was popular for fishing and the production of coral.
Anyway, the position is one of the main features of this village. Indeed, from there you can admire splendid sea views and some of the most enchanting sunsets.
The best beaches in Nerano
Both tourists and locals love Nerano for its beautiful beaches where they can relax, sunbathe or do snorkeling.
One of the most popular beaches is Marina del Cantone. It is situated in a natural cove and it is famous for its clear water, the lovely restaurants, and beach clubs. Furthermore, it has been awarded the Blue Flag – an international certification given to beaches with excellent water quality.
Another wonderful beach is Ieranto Bay. It is part of the protected area of Punta Campanella and you can reach it by foot via a scenic path from Massa Lubrense. This beach is less crowded and it is the perfect place to enjoy a quiet day by the sea.
The great food
Nerano is also known for its delicious food. The town has a few small restaurants serving fresh seafood caught daily and there are also a few gelaterias where you can enjoy handmade ice cream.
The typical dish of this seaside village is Spaghetti alla Nerano. It combines spaghetti with zucchini and Provolone del Monaco, a local cheese. The result is an intense but light dish, which gives great satisfaction.
How to reach the sea village
Nerano is great for a day trip during your holiday on the Amalfi Coast. You can reach it by car along via Nastro Azzurro, the road that connects Sorrento with Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi, or via Nastro Verde, which starts from Massa Lubrense.
