The Best Panoramic Terraces On The Amalfi Coast
If there is one thing the Amalfi Coast is famous for, it is its panoramic views. And what are the best places to admire them if not the panoramic terraces?
On the Amalfi Coast there are numerous belvederes and panoramic terraces from which to observe the endless blue sea, the outline of Vesuvius, and the rugged coastline with the two steep hills on which picturesque towns are perched. Sometimes it is a natural vantage point, other times a true hotel balcony. Not to mention the enchanting views from our rental villas!
So, let’s go and discover these panoramic terraces on the Amalfi Coast.
The Panoramic Terraces of Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone, in Ravello
Charming Ravello is situated in an elevated position but facing the sea. This gives the town a bird’s-eye view of a section of the coastline, particularly the towns of Minori and Maiori.
Among the best places to admire the view are two spots at Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone. These two ancient luxury villas have a fascinating history, magnificent gardens and two romantic terraces.
The terrace of Villa Rufolo is the result of restoration work by Sir Daniel Nevil Reid who bought the villa in the 1800s. Surrounded by the lush garden, the pamoramic terrace shows you all the beauty of the mountains sloping down to the sea.
Much more famous is the Terrace of Infinity at Villa Cimbrone. After crossing part of the enchanting park, you will find yourself on a balcony, complete with a parapet decorated with marble busts. In front of you will have only the infinite blue of the sea. A perfect place for wedding proposals.
Enjoying a Drink on the Terraces of Positano
Let’s move on to Positano, a town known for its chic atmosphere and numerous VIP visitors.
Here, too, there are fantastic panoramic terraces.
The first is located at Franco’s bar, a great place to try some good cocktails. The terrace overlooks the rooftops of the houses and is at its best at sunset. You must remember that the bar does not take reservations, so you might find a bit of a crowd. On the other hand, it is open every day.
The second terrace is the Gold Sky Terrace at Hotel Villa Franca, which offers a 360-degree view. If you look at the view you can see all of Positano, but also the town of Amalfi, Punta Campanella, the Li Galli archipelago, and, behind you, the Lattari Mountains.
Dinner with a View in Amalfi
If you are in Amalfi, the best viewing terrace is at the bar of Hotel La Bussola, from which you can admire the view of the place and the town. Then if you get hungry, you can stop by for dinner.
The Colors of Vietri sul Mare
Even outside the most popular towns there are some beautiful panoramic terraces on the Amalfi Coast.
Vietri sul Mare is home to Villa Comunale, another historic building with a beautiful garden. Within the garden are a series of terraces from which there is a wonderful view of the sea. The special detail is that the stairs, handrails and fountains you will see are all curved and covered with the colorful local ceramics. A place somewhat reminiscent of Gaudi’s design in Barcelona.
The terrace of the Excelsior Vittoria Hotel in Sorrento
Let’s move to the Sorrento Peninsula for a moment.
Sorrento’s Hotel Excelsior Vittoria has a terrace so beautiful that it inspired one of Italy’s most popular songs (Lucio Dalla’s Caruso).
The terrace is part of the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant. You don’t have to stay for dinner, but you can also just have an aperitif. The view you will enjoy is undoubtedly among the most beautiful in the area. And a good cocktail can only make everything better.
The view from the Path of the Gods
Let’s finish the show list of the most beautiful panoramic terraces on the Amalfi Coast by talking about the Sentiero degli Dei (Path of the Gods).
This path connects Agerola to Positano and offers beautiful views along its entire length. It is hard to say which is the most beautiful!
What you will see is simply marvelous: a panorama that stretches from the mountains with the perched villages to the east to the island of Capri with its Faraglioni rocks to the west. If the air is clear you will also see the islands of Ischia and Procida. And if you turn around, you’ll be able to admire the forests and mountain peaks.
You don’t have to be an avid hiker to follow the Path of the Gods. If you are not very trained you will perhaps struggle a bit, but we assure you it will be worth it!
